How Donations Are Used - An Overview
Quite simply, a donation is classed as a “gift” - it is a way of showing support for the project, but it should be made clear that it does not guarantee the access to any particular goods or services, nor does it provide any bearing over the way in which the project is developed. Providing a donation is a fantastic way to show support and allow the project to expand, but it does not come with any warranty of any kind.
What it does do is help build a pool of funds that may be used to support and improve the project over time. These funds are spent at the discretion of the project’s developers.
Where funds are available, spending will typically be prioritised based on what is deemed most important at the time, in maintaining or improving the project.
How spending is prioritised:
- Running Costs:
Keeping the service running is the main priority. Donations may be used to lighten the load when covering the cost of hosting services, email services, electrical costs, redundancy planning etc. - Project Development:
Where needed, donations may be used to cover the cost of any improvements being made.
