Being transgender is a complex and multi-faceted experience. You may have heard people describe it as being “born into the wrong body”, and although this might be how some people feel, it’s not the case for every trans person.
A Note About Stereotyping
It is natural for us to recognise certain behaviours in ourselves or others and make assumptions - often, it’s part of the way we seek to make sense of our world based on the experience we have. That said, stereotyping behaviour can be damaging and it’s important to give a person the space they need to explore themselves in their own time.
Actively labelling people you don’t know as transgender, “an egg ready to crack”, or expecting transgender people to be reactive or aggressive when being misgendered is unfair and unrealistic in many cases. More than this, it often forces uncomfortable roles onto any person that may just be even a little bit gender non-conforming. There will be none of that behaviour here.
We feel that the healthy thing is to just leave people to live their lives how they want, whoever they are.
If you are transgender, please don’t worry if you feel these experiences aren’t befitting of your own. There’s no single right way to be transgender, and that’s okay.
